Dermal Fillers + Injectables

Injectable dermal fillers are gel-like substances used to restore volume, fill-in fine lines to deep creases, or enhance facial contours from the inside-out. In the last decade, the evolution of dermal fillers and their use has dramatically changed how we approach facial aesthetics. Dermal fillers are an increasingly popular choice for facial rejuvenation because they are a safe, flexible, and immediate solution to looking younger and refreshed without the cost, risk, and down-time of surgery. Appropriately and artistically applied, the results are beautiful and natural-appearing.

There are a variety of FDA-approved dermal filler products that we can use to achieve your aesthetic goals. Each has slightly different characteristics in terms of texture, density, optimal injection depth, and duration, which means that certain fillers work better for certain areas of concern. Most fillers are infused with lidocaine to help minimize discomfort during and after treatment. Common issues dermal fillers can address:

  • soften lines around nose and mouth. (a.k.a. marionette lines, smile lines, and parentheses)
  • enhance & restore volume to sunken cheeks and temples.
  • diminish vertical lip lines
  • plump & enhance the lips
  • smooth out a chin crease
  • hand rejuvenation

If you are considering dermal fillers for facial rejuvenation, a consultation is the best place to start. We will discuss your aesthetic concerns and goals, explain our approach to ‘natural facial sculpting’, and review your best options for dermal fillers and other complimentary treatments.

We offer the following FDA-approved dermal fillers:

HA Dermal Fillers are FDA approved to restore and rejuvenate the skin. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance that is plentiful in youthful skin as it helps keep skin plump and hydrated. HA fillers are soft, clear, and gel-like. The results of HAs are temporary, most lasting 9 to 12 months or longer before the body gradually and naturally absorbs the particles.

Radiesse® is made of calcium hydroxylapatite, also a naturally occurring substance found primarily in our bones and teeth.  The tiny calcium particles in Radiesse are very tiny, almost microscopic, and suspended in a smooth gel.  It’s consistency is typically thicker than that of the softer HA fillers, and the results will typically last longer as well, about 12 months for most patients. It’s mid-range thickness and duration means that it can be used to address a variety of issues ranging from softening superficial folds and wrinkles around the nose and mouth, correction of upper and mid-face volume loss, and even hand rejuvenation. Radiesse is also reported to help stimulate natural collagen production in the skin.

Sculptra® Aesthetic (Injectable poly-L-lactic acid)

BA_Sculptra
Sculptra® Aesthetic is not a traditional “filler” but rather a “bio-stimulator”, meaning that it stimulates the body to gradually produce it’s own collagen and soft tissue, thereby increasing the volume and improving the structure of the dermis. It consists of poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a biocompatible (meaning it is safe to use in the body), biodegradable synthetic substance. It has been used for many years in a number of medical devices, such as dissolvable stitches.  Sculptra is considered “semi-permanent”, as results typically last more than 2 years.  Sculptra® Aesthetic treatment is usually given as part of a series of 3 or more injections at least 1 month apart.  The results are soft, subtle and gradual, and long-lasting.  In addition to improved volume and softening deeper folds, many clients report improvement in the overall texture of the skin as well.

Bellafill® (Polymethylmethacrylate)

BA_Bellafil-Acne
BA_Bellafil
Bellafill® is a combination filler and “biostimulator”. It consists of tiny “microspheres” of Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) evenly suspended in a soft collagen filler. PMMA is a synthetic, biocompatible (meaning not harmful to the body) substance that has been used in medical implants for decades. The collagen in Bellafill® provides immediate volume and smoothing, while the PMMA microspheres remain in place long-term and create a matrix that stimulates and supports collagen production in your skin for lasting improvement in your skin’s firmness and structure. Bellafill is used for long-lasting correction of deep facial wrinkles, facial contouring, and is now approved for the correction of certain moderate to severe facial acne scars. A skin test is required prior to Bellafill treatments in case of allergic reaction to the collagen.
